On Sunday 18th December, the annual “Mochi Pounding Festival” was held at the Europe Centre, blessed with the warm, comfortable weather. 121 people came to the event and had a good time.
After staff’s demonstration, children and adults wearing festival happi coat took turns pounding mochi. Some children did it a couple of times. The participants also experienced to make rice cakes from mochi just pounded, and ate it with anko (bean paste), kinako (toasted soybean flour) or soy sauce. Thus, the participants enjoyed a lively atmosphere.
The rice cakes was also sold and the 84 packs were sold out. The proceeds will be donated to Tenrikyo Mission Centre in Thailand to be used to support for schools and hospitals that were affected by the flood disaster. A donation box for the Thai disaster was set up at the venue. The proceeds of sales and donations totaled 251 euro.
